Adobe Photoshop Elements Tutorial: Lineart/ Color by painted-flamingo Adobe Photoshop Elements Tutorial: Lineart/ Color by painted-flamingo
I've been wanting to do an Elements tutorial for a while now because when I started using it I had a hard time finding any tutorials. It took me way longer to find out there is a VERY easy way to color in Elements too, and this is the thing I hope most people get from the tutorial because it will save you a lot of time, especially if you don't have a tablet.

To learn around canvas sizing, getting crisp lineart, and tablet/ brush settings please see my other PSE tutorial : painted-flamingo.deviantart.co…

So just some notes:

-You DON'T need a tablet for any of these steps
-Blue lines point out certain tools and things for that step
-This is a very simple tutorial
-This is just the way I do things, I'm not saying its the right or best way, its just what I use and it works best for me
-I used adobe PS elements version 8, it will likely work for other versions and other programs (like PS)
-If you want to add a background to your piece, just create a new layer UNDER your color (locked layer) and create away!

-an alternate to the "if you have any sections that have color that you want to be transparent" is to right click on the sections and select "add to selection." The step must be done BEFORE selecting the inverse.

Now please give me any questions you have. I tried to make this extremely easy to follow, so let me know if it is not. If there are typos, sorry but I flattened it to save space so won't be able to fix.

I'D LOVE TO SEE YOUR WORK! If you use this please link me to what you've created so I can fave it! No need to link back or anything unless you want to. All I ask is that you don't steal the tutorial itself

Sorry for another question, but what do I do if it already has a white background,
I did everything and my coloring is not showing up D:

Oh thats fine- What you need to do it set the linart layer to "multiply" and keep the layer you are going to color on at "normal." In this case, your color later should be UNDER the lineart/ white later.

So follow everything n the tutorial, but add in the step of setting your lineart/white layer to multiply

LAST QUESTION I'm sorry omg,
What do you do if the lineart I've opened, the background
is already locked? How can I unlock it

you should just be able to press the lock icon in bottom of the layers window, or the little checker pattern box at bottom of layers window

I'm really confused, I'm using a free lineart, so I haven't drawn anything
so where do I start? I'm so dumb '^'

You will start on the tip that say "Select the Magic Wand tool" ^^ Just let me know if you run in to issues

I'm trying to color adoptables and I want each
one to be different yet I don't know which base color I want
each to be and after I color the base color white and then lock that
layer I can only color what's behind it?? I'm so lost >.<;

sounds like you forgot to select inverse after using the magic wand tool, try that! Make sure when you use the magic wand tool you click on the background, not inside the adoptable itself. Then select inverse.  That should let you color inside ;D

Oh meh God! YOU HAVE SAVED MY LIFE!!!
NO ONE ever does the really simple PSE tutorials about the things we ALL have trouble with at the beginning, I SERIOUSLY CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!

And now if you'll excuse me, I am going to go see if I can follow your very simple and incredible instructions without messing up.

These kind of comments make me so happy! PSE is a great program but its features are not very obvious. I have been meaning to do more of the basics tutorials, going to try to work on some today.

And if you have any questions along the way feel free to ask here (:

The colouring *grimace*
It left the largest section uncoloured.

did you make sure to select inverse? Make sure no breaks in outline? Take a screenshot of where you are at and I can try and help

I deleted the picture. It was a really sucky frog that I drew just to practice.

I clicked select inverse, I went over the whole thing and made sure there were no line breaks but it still didn't work! *sulks in corner* These things never work for me...

When you used the magic want tool to select, were you clicked onto the lineart layer? Did you see a little fuzzy line surrounding your lineart after you clicked?

How do you do the lineart? because I don't think there's a pen stabilizer in photoshop elements... is there a line tool?

Nope I do it freehand, just lots of practice to make smooth lines. There are some things that will help with your lines though- I need to make quick tutorial for that some time
